Krogs Fish Restaurant Poem Read (Video)

Krogs

Krogs – where fishes gave a concert, and the guests 'encored' for more

I've flown around the world; from Rotterdam to West Peru,
I've squawked and dived behind tall ships for meals, like all gulls do!
I've never cried a sob for food until the time I saw,
Four fishes give a concert and the guests 'encore' for more.

A Mermaid echoed water-horn to start this music tale,
Then Herring gently plucked a harp made rich from pearl of shell;
While Tuna aired a violin proud Haddock ‘tuned’ a lute,
And Salmon, soft and sweet in pink, lipped graciously the flute.

They plucked and blew and bowed them smooth the notes that pleased the ear.
With fins and scales and flicks of tails fine ripples trilled the air.
And rainbow-bubbled melodies all joined to intertwine,
A prelude and a fugue to welcomed guests who came to dine.

Now, my mother's always said to me: 'Son, never be so rude:
Don't hum beside the table-side, and don't play with your food'!
Well, I should pass this message on to all in song that day,
For right before my very eyes the food I eat, did play!

They played the ‘odal’ chorus scene from Ludwig’s ‘number nine’,
And Handle's ‘Water Music’ played as song a second time.
Whilst to the ‘Yellow Submarine’ the guests did twist and shout,
My eyes watered tearfully to tunes from Schubert's ‘Trout’!

From seas and rocks,
We fly in flocks,
To hear the sea at ‘tune-full’ Krogs.

Restaurant Wiinblad

Restaurant Wiinblad – with ornamental artistry and intricate design

Great Zeus, with antique Majesty, completed Earth as planned.
To celebrate its end, he built a caf' on Danish land.
He used his name and status as a god to bless the place.
To give it life and atmosphere he chose an artist from the human race.

With ornamental artistry and intricate design,
This artist crafted-coloured-dipped-and-dabbed a work sublime.
But his sacrificial love for Beauty drove him to declare:
"I can not call this 'Café Zeus': 'tis common and I sware, sounds bare"!

So menu card, address and sign displayed in ink his name.
Because this angered Zeus, at night the furious Furies came,
From whom, with fatal wound, the artist fled for life around the room,
And splashed the place with blood – the lack of which brought him eternal doom!

Next day fair Zeus as shining light descended down on Earth,
And saw to his surprise and sorrowed heart he'd slain one royal from birth;
Now blue was seen 'most everywhere, lit up a splendid scene:
With tables laid in blue, not white, and bowery flowers graced forever green.

"Of course, I should have known", sobbed Zeus, "That blue blood flowed in him;
With precious ink from vein of pen he spoke in fine lines thin."
And thus, Zeus added warm gold tear drops, and as mortal blood be red,
He kept changed name unchanged for he had killed not man but artist-royal, instead!

If you believe this tale,
Love divine foods as well,
Come dine at Restaurant Wiinblad!

Café Norden

Café Norden – where swans do play on water-road and storks by water-spring

Hail there, yonder gentle Rose! Pray tell, where do you go?
– I've watched you by my window pass, with petals that do glow.
"I go to Copenhagen, near a place where swallows sing,
Where swans do play on water-road and storks by water-spring."

O, Rose so tender, soft and pure, what business have you there,
You walk so tall in velvet gown with scent that takes the air?
"I use my scent to charm the hearts of lovers old or young:
My gown seals Love forever true under a smiling sun."

Dear Rose, these charms that you possess, think you, to me, could lend,
My eye ‘tis on a virgin lass, who was my dearest friend.
"This 'virgin lass' is thus no more, her frozen heart's not true.
She does not walk in sunny shades like all true lovers do."

Alas, she left by pale moon-light, and now in dreams I weep.
Rose, charm my sweetheart back to me, for poorly I do sleep.
"This lass you pine now dreams with Time on pillow soft as stone.
Another courts her for her heart, she does not sleep alone.

"O, Rose of joy, my love is strong, please treat me not unkind.
Go call to her! Go! Charm her heart. Pray, wake her, change her mind!
"O, doleful man, please let me be! Though all I do I've said,
'Tis Death that courts her in a grave. I can't charm back the dead!"

When roses line to blossom
The streets of Copenhagen,
Greet love in life, at Café Norden!

La Glace

La Glace - complements that special dish we’ve come to know as cake!

In life it is the uniform that wears the heart’s desire,
It mirrors our intent, it shows to what our minds aspire.
And this was clearly seen when Inspiration wore Her treat:
A little girl did dress up as the thing she loved to eat!

‘Twas cake she loved; all pastries, fluffed or sponged in quality,
Or sweet and tender, soft and round - for this she longed to be.
With silk and ribbon, bells and rings, sewn with a subtle sense,
She tailored clothes so one could see the Gâteau's influence.

The place that fed her influence was found in Copenhagen
- Not Paris or Vienna, where she would not go for bacon.
And daily she would take her chair, and she felt most at home,
Just sitting in among the cake, she never felt alone.

Now, I love football, and I’ll dress to match my favourite team;
To score a goal in red and blue has been my childhood dream.
Well, this dear child just for the sake of cake, it ruled her soul,
Would get her kicks from dressing as a bun, this was her goal.

Sweet marzipan, strawberries, cream and chocolate made to whirl,
She’d imitate with fairy feathers in her golden curls,
While on her vesture, colours rare her love would c’ordinate,
To complement that special dish we’ve come to know as cake!

Eat inside a special place;
Served with tea but more with grace:
Cakes and pastries at La Glace!

Konrad

Konrad – where Space is held symmetrically, and Detail, finished smooth!

I know what you're thinking: you think pure Art has no match,
And think that there's no restaurant my string of words could catch;
No place where I with dignity could tell a lively tale,
No place where I could contrast heaven with the life of hell.

For can there be a place where Art has worked its way sublime,
To have the Mind and Spirit think they're from another Time,
Where Trend has gone beyond itself to set a standard rare,
Where Food and Service complement the clothes that Trend doth wear?

Is food and food's experience not that which we do eat?
– Experiences differ quite with different friends we meet.
A modern European 'carte' with worldly influence,
Is far too great an enterprise to serve through day's events!

Is there a place where great Design has borrowed from its muse:
Where Space is held symmetrically, and Detail, finished smooth;
Where Enterprise and Industry have given birth to Taste?
Yes, this is what you're thinking, "Hold thy tongue, there's no such place"!

Well, you may think, and rightly so, that such place can't exist,
And thinking thoughts with Hope in mind is called 'an idle wish'.
I can't agree! My thinking has my pen write clear and strong,
To write in words that Hope's prevailed to prove your thinking wrong!

Design's no fad
When Art has clad
Design seen at Konrad!

Café Somersko

Cafe Sommersko – the first real Danish French cafe!

As Earth spins round from West to East on axis North and South,
Spins with it seas and lands with souls that human form doth house.
On one such land are houses where the Danes in commune dwell;
They feast in bars and cafés. One such café forms my tale.

As popular as food is now, this place now is in name:
The first real Danish French café – this fact increased its fame;
For posters, mirrors, chandeliers, time-clock from d'Angleterre,
Add taste to brash Bohemia with dash of Danish flare.

On Saturdays and Sunday morns, right through to Friday night,
It’s imbued with hospitality, warmed up by glow of light
That falls on glasses hung up upside down by lines of holding steel
– Coloured liquors likewise hang, but corked up tight so they don't spill.

I've been to Paris many times, used bus and metro train.
When I discovered caf' I found myself in France again;
So then bought I a brunch and sipped up smooth that drink from Italy:
The Cappuccino!– foamed with milk, the stuff the French call 'lait'.

Thus indeed, this caf’s an institution setting trends to come,
(Now it dresses up as 'fusion-dish' our foods we place on tongue).
So be in France again – Illusion and the Mind do join as Friend –
And join with friends and have in mind the place where Evening's time you'll spend.

Faites chaleur chaud,
– On sait, qu'il faut –
Venez à Café Sommersko!

Kong Hans

Kong Hans – where gothic arches fold the walls to hold them still and calm

Hark! Retreat ye bellow-clouds, your thunders don't employ!
Let sunlight gild the cobbled stones: light up our streets with joy.
Let bells ring out bright harmonies, let music shun the rain,
I've found the old mediaeval rooms where King Hans lives again!

Down stairs that take you lower down, stairs stepped by Kings and Queens,
Are oldest rooms in 'København' which housed past courtly scenes;
Which now is gourmet restaurant whose guests do journey in
To sit and dine in Time, and have fine meals fit for a King.

Fine salmon, wines and fine delights are dishes you can choose,
While crystal glass and golden silver lay the tables smooth.
And gothic arches fold the walls to hold them still and calm:
Embracing rare an atmosphere unique in mystic charm.

King Hans, from fourteen eighty-one, did rule the Danish land,
And wanted Sweden rejoin Norway in a royal plan.
Through 'yes' and 'no's' and battled blows, done deals were done, undone.
Hans died in fifteen-thirteen: left the throne to seat his son.

To us he's left this heirloom royal; he’s left us nought for want,
For we've preserved its walls from Time in form of restaurant,
Where food and ancient history in harmony revive,
Our hearts and minds with memories to keep King Hans, alive!

Let life commence
From great events
In style with dear old King, Kong Hans!
